Background
The Active Women’s League commenced in 2013. Its informal structure allowed a growing number of cricket clubs across Shropshire to offer competition to females aged 13 and above who were developing an interest in the sport. The fledgling competition saw numbers grow rapidly in a short space of time. Eight club sides took to the cricket fields around the county in the summer of 2013 with over 100 females accessing Shropshire’s first ever cricket programme for open age cricket.

SWAGCC Philosophy
The Active Women’s League aims to provide opportunities for an increasing number of females to access cricket through a competitive structure. The league seeks to develop players’ skills and also the social and moral values that are integral to the MCC’s “Spirit of Cricket”. The league brings together players from a wide variety of cricketing backgrounds, some with little or no previous experience of the game.
